Phoenician, 1500 – 330 BC
To the Phoenicians, this hand represented Tanit, the goddess of the lunar cycle. In time, her hand became a protective amulet in its own right, used to ward off the evil eye. The Khamsa also represents blessings, power and strength, and is still widely used as a protective talisman.
